about
Margaret Steinbach is a Canadian scenic, costume, property, and lighting designer.
Margaret trained at Toronto Metropolitan University’s School of Performance in the Performance: Production + Design (BFA) program, receiving the Governor General's Silver Medal for her work throughout this degree. She is currently completing a Master of Arts in Theatre and Performance Design at Wimbledon College of Arts (University of the Arts London).
Margaret’s creative practice stems from her identity as a proud neurodivergent artist; her process combines research and experimentation, striving to create experiential spaces for dance, opera, and theatre. She has designed for renowned choreographers Rodney Diverlus, Kunal Ranchod, Valerie Calam, and Jesse Obremski, developed work under producers Louis Laberge-Côté and Vicki St.Denys, and worked alongside award-winning designers such as Rachel Forbes, Melanie McNeill, and Patrick Lavender.
Her recent work seeks to combine design and social activism, with particular focus on feminist perspectives, sustainability, and accessibility.
Margaret has also worked as a stage manager, technical director, and department head/supervisor for wardrobe, carpentry, properties, and scenic painting.
